What is Security?
Security is to a large extent about identifying risks, and striving to develop procedures to minimize the loss of the most critical data elements.

What are Security Systems?
Security systems are measures that one puts in place to prevent unauthorized people accessing restricted data or network resources. A good security system also seeks to prevent data from being lost or corrupted. That is because security risks are more than deliberate abuse, they also deal with faults which can occur in hardware and software. The aim of security systems are to ensure business continuity and minimize business damage by preventing and minimizing the impact of security incidents.

Security, like accuracy, performance and safety, can be considered as a quality of an Information System (IS). What is an Information Security Management System (ISMS)?

The ISO 17799 standard is made up of 10 specific core sections, each dealing with specific elements crucial to your business. It is within these sections that the standards and controls are documented and explained. Without this, organizations expose themselves to loss of confidentiality, integrity, availability, accountability, authenticity and reliability of information and services. The impact of this can be catastrophic.

It is critical, then, that security must be an integral part of an organization’s overall management plan, for all organizations that are serious about the way that they conduct their business affairs and activities.
